3/24/07 Best of the Best Reported by Ben
Henderson Osage Beach, MO. Over the past few weeks well above average temperatures have warmed the waters at LOZ into the mid to upper 50s. Consequently, the bite has really been on as huge sacks of fish continue to roll off of this incredible body of water. Fishing spots on LOZ Saturday were at a premium as 17 ragoda permits were issued for local clubs and circuits looking to cash in on the hot action. Due to the overwhelming venues offered, numbers for the first Best of the Best were below normal. However, many of the top teams showed up to fish including Shane Long and Tom Murphy, Mike and Mark Fann, and Rick LaPoint with J E VanNatta. After a hard day of fishing, the BOB anglers managed to bring in nine limits to the scales with the top teams breaking the fifteen pound mark. A total of 66 fish were weighed on Saturday with an average weight of over three pounds. Jimmy and Jackie Davis 1st Place Taking home top honors was the team of Jimmy and Jackie Davis with a five fish limit that weighed an impressive 22.13 lbs. They took all of their fish on jigs and reported having 10 legals for the event. Their win was good enough for $1,452 in prize money and an early points lead.
A happy Billy Bird and Dave Barker in 2nd place In second place was Dave Barker and Billy Bird, who won the 2006 BOB points championship, and started this year off on a good note as well. Dave and Billy took second place with a five fish limit that weighed 18.19 lbs. For their second place finish they took home $750 in prize money.
Tom Murphy and Shane Long 3rd In third place was the team of Shane Long and Tom Murphy. Shane and Tom had a good year fishing the BOB in 2006 as they narrowly lost the two day championship to Rick LaPoint at Pomme. This year they start out strong as they managed to capture third place with five fish going 16.80 lbs. which was good for $150. Tom and Shane also received the $500 Yamaha bonus for being the highest placing Yamaha owner. Also winning bonus money was the team of Greg DeGrase and Dave Miller, as they took home a $200 check for having the Minn Kota Hummin' Bird combo. The final pay-out of the day went to the small stringer winners of Jeff Mosley and Bobby Loyd with one fish that weighed 2.31 lbs. Their one fish paid out $150 because in the Best of the Best they ALL count! Opening up the Best of the Best festivities this year was Center City's own Terry Eckley, as former MC Scott Turnage passes on the baton. Terry kept the crowd entertained with his wit and professional manner as he moved the fishermen through the bag line. What a hunk-a-hunk-a burning love!
As always, the Center City Staff was on the ball making sure all the fish were well taken of and placed back into the lake safely.
Great Job Guys!
The Three Amigos! Even though many did not take home any prize money each team was treated to a tackle pack which included Revenge spinnerbaits and Luck E Strike worms courtesy of the newly opened tackle store at Center City Marine. A special thanks goes out to the Ladies: Mrs. Billy Bird, Mrs. Gary Kilburn, and Mrs. Perry Ayres for helping out with the event. The Best of the Best Tournament trail would like to thank all their fine sponsors: Skeeter Boats, G3 Boats, Yamaha, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Pro-Guide Batteries, Luck “E” Strike Lure Co., Basswishes Online Tackle Co., Please Release Me release formula, L & L Products Inc., Hamby’s Beaching Bumpers, Midwest Steel, Pro-Control Flush Mount Tray, Eiron Breaker Lure CO., and Purcell Tire. |
